Review:
My Powerful Hair tells the story of a young girl and her dedication to growing out her beautiful, long, hair - something her mother and grandmother before her were not able to do. As she talks about her hair growth, she shares different milestones in her life at different lengths. This is a beautiful story of the importance of hair across Indigenous cultures and I would highly recommend it for any library. This book also pairs well with our 4th grade Social Studies curriculum and our 5th grade Wit and Wisdom curriculum. I imagine reading it to my students and then having them brainstorm things that are important to them and their families and cultures.
