Review:
This is a picture book/biography about Jovita Valdovinos. From a young age, Jovita wanted to join her father and brothers in the Cristero Revolution, but was not allowed as a female. She knew she was strong and smart enough, so in 1930, she changed her name to Juan, cut her hair short, and dressed like a peasant man. She became a trailblazing revolutionary. This story is full of beautiful illustrations and poetic language making it a joy to read. I would highly recommend adding this to your libraries. While a great addition and read aloud year-round, it would be particularly meaningful during Hispanic Heritage Month or Women's History Month.
