Review:

Azemichi is a high school student who dreams of being a famous comedian. He is well known online as "Everyday Shijmi", writing jokes while his parents think he is studying for his college entrance exams. Azemichi is comfortable hiding behind his screen, but he knows he has to get over his stage fright if he wants to continue with a comedy career. His chance comes by mistake when he enters the comedy event at his school's culture festival with a partner he hardly knows. They win at the festival and are motivated to continue onto bigger and more competitive comedy competitions.

I am not a fan of Manga....yet? (I am still hoping to become one). I have not read any manga with story lines that are engaging for me. Show-Ha Shoten! was not the book to change my mind. It did touch on the struggles of a shy teenager who faces his fear to accomplish a goal.  It also showcased how Azemichi's family rejected the idea of comedy because of their high expectations of him becoming a doctor or lawyer. Even so, these issues stayed on the surface level. The art in the book was interesting.  There were many sound effects used in an artful way, but I did not feel that they enhanced the story. The best part of this book was the cliffhanger ending, which did make me want to read the next book to see what happens. I am not giving up on manga yet, but this was not the book to help me fall in love with it!
