Review:
Some wisdom from our fungi friends who serve a vital purpose in our ecosystem. Mushrooms Know is a brightly colored illustrated book about mushrooms and their role as plants, pollinators, protectors and producers. The book discusses ideas like roots under the earth's surface, spreading spores, producing chemicals, and breaking down materials. The purpose of this text is really discussing mushrooms and their jobs in our world's natural ecosystem. The text combines simple prose with more complex scientific ideas to allow for easy reading and usage of the text as a nonfiction source. The illustrations are bright (almost neon), and feature many different kinds of mushrooms that have cute faces. The mushrooms are almost labeled on each page with their specific names, and some have little speech bubbles saying things like 'Hello' or something related to the page.
I liked this book, and would recommend it to elementary readers. I think that the text is short and fun for elementary students, and the illustrations are fun and interactive in a way that draw students in to the book. I think that it is a fun illustrated text, and a good choice for a nonfiction book collection. I could see this text being used as both a read aloud text for younger students, as well as a nonfiction source for projects relating to nature, ecosystems, and more.
