Welcome Back!

This school year will certainly be different, but all of us here at the School Library System office are looking forward to working through it with you, and learning a lot along the way!

CHANGES AROUND THE REGION

  • Chelsea Khan, who previously served as Penfield’s Middle/High School Library is the new librarian at Indian Landing Elementary School.  Nancy Logghe retired last spring from Indian Landing Elementary School in Penfield.
  • Aliza Mangefrida is the new librarian at Honeoye Falls-Lima High School, replacing Colleen Pittman, who accepted a position in the Brockport CSD.
  • Brenda Green is a teacher on special assignment replacing Gretchen Pulver at Plank Road North Elementary School in Webster this year.  Gretchen accepted a new position in the Naples CSD over the summer.

Welcome and congratulations to all on your new positions!

REOPENING INFORMATION

We’ve updated our LibGuide to include lots of information about reopening.  Please find it at https://libguides.monroe.edu/SLS, under the “Return to School” 2021 tab.  If you run across something that we’ve missed that you feel should be included, please feel free to send it along to us!

OVERDRIVE REGIONAL COLLECTION

  • We have made many additions over the summer.  If you haven’t checked out Sora recently, please take a look, and check out our new eBook and Audiobook additions, curated on the Sora Explore page.  We’ll continue to grow the collection throughout the year.
  • Diverse Reads for Kids and Teens: A collection of 56 Own Voices and Diversity eBooks, simultaneously accessible and available through August 31, 2021.  This collection is curated at the top of the Sora Explore page.
  • Looking ahead a couple of months, this fall’s OverDrive Big Library Read for Young Adults will take place November 2-16, 2020.  Reverie by Ryan La Sala, will be available in unlimited simultaneous access in both eBook and Audiobook format during that time.  Here is a brief synopsis:

Inception meets The Magicians in this wildly imaginative story about what happens when the secret worlds people hide within themselves come to light.
All Kane Montgomery knows for certain is that the police found him half-dead in the river. He can’t remember anything since an accident robbed him of his memories a few weeks ago. And the world feels different—reality itself seems different.
So when three of his classmates claim to be his friends and the only people who can tell him what’s truly going on, he doesn’t know what to believe or who he can trust. But as he and the others are dragged into unimaginable worlds that materialize out of nowhere—the gym warps into a subterranean temple, a historical home nearby blooms into a Victorian romance rife with scandal and sorcery—Kane realizes that nothing in his life is an accident, and only he can stop their world from unraveling.

INTERLIBRARY LOAN

Regional interlibrary loan has been suspended until further notice.  If you have outstanding loans from last school year, please do pack them up and return them.

SLS STAFFING

Beginning next week (9/15) Sally Bailey will be away from the office for a few weeks.  If you have particularly challenging Follett Destiny questions, you’ll want to reach out to her this week.  We are arranging coverage and during Sally’s absence.  During that time, reach out to Liesl Toates for assistance (383-2215; liesl_toates@boces.monroe.edu ).

We wish you all a safe and rewarding 2020-21 school year!
