Welcome back everyone!  We hope that your school year is off to a great start!

Welcome several new school librarians to the region:

  • Colleen Pittman at Honeoye Falls-Lima High School (beginning in October)

  • Sarah Gobe at Winslow Elementary in Rush Henrietta

  • Jennifer Strege at Schroeder High School in Webster

  • Julianne Westrich at the Elementary Schools in West Irondequoit

There are also a couple of name changes for school librarians:

  • Stacy Gringer at East Irondequoit, Laurelton-Pardee is now Stacy Porter

  • Chelsea Johnson at Bay Trail Middle School in Penfield is now Chelsea Khan

Announcing the 2018-19 School Library System Mini-Grants

The Monroe One BOCES School Library System is pleased to announced that it will provide up to $20,000 in total funding for mini-grants for collection development, innovative projects, or professional development to certified school librarians in our member schools.  Applicants may request up to $1,200.

Sora 300x250 2Introducing OverDrive Sora!

This summer OverDrive released their new platform for K-12 education, called Sora.  For a quick overview, go to https://overdrive.wistia.com/medias/1y0f8i4ywy .  Sora allows patrons (both students and teachers) to access the Monroe One BOCES SLS OverDrive collection from any device and to move seamlessly from one device to another.  Users may read eBooks and listen to audio books using Sora.  There is a “Getting Started in Sora” document attached to this message.  Some of the new features include:

  • personalization of accounts

  • linking a public library card to an account (juvenile and young adult titles only)

  • assignments (available only to OverDrive Advantage users)

We will be providing more information in the coming weeks. For those of you who prefer to use the OverDrive app, it is still available. 

On a related note, the OverDrive Libby app is only for Public Library users.
