News Literacy: Opinion

Don't confuse opinion with news! 

Sometimes journalists must write in a way to persuade people of something (ie. climate change or corruption). The presence of opinion doesn't automatically equal bad journalism. 

Opinion pieces play an important role, but look for evidence to support their claims.

Credible news outlets will usually label opinion pieces as such. Notice the example to the right.
