About Safari

Access to instructional videos, primary source documents, and other digital resources through the SAFARI Montage platform is provided by Monroe One BOCES to districts participating in the Multimedia service.

SAFARI Montage servers come preloaded with educational video titles tied to the curriculum from the industry's leading video publishers, which include Schlessinger Media, PBS, The History Channel, National Geographic, Scholastic, Disney Education, BBC and more. Monroe One BOCES also purchases additional titles through Learn360 and independent content producers, which is embedded directly into the SAFARI search interface.

Important Notes about Learn360 Content

Districts who participate in the Monroe One BOCES Multimedia service have access to Learn360 content, which is embedded within the SAFARI Montage search platform. This allows teachers to do one search when looking for content.

One thing to note: SAFARI will automatically default to it's own video tab when displaying results. To find Learn360 content, just click the Web Streaming tab under Video (see figure below and click to enlarge).

  • Operation Ouch Video Links - Web links to 35 videos hosted by Dr. Chris van Tulleken and Dr. Alexander van Tulleken who experiment and explore their way through the fascinating world of medicine and biology. Grades Pre-2-7.

  • Garden Tales: Garden Tales is a wildlife soap opera following the exciting adventures of a cute and colorful cast of real animal characters alongside their friends and neighbors. Grades PreK-3.
  • Go Jetters (series 3): Aimed at the upper end of preschool ages 4–6, Go Jetters follows the adventures of four heroes, Xuli, Kyan, Lars and Foz, as they travel the world with their teacher, mentor and friend, Ubercorn. The program uses songs and music to expose facts about various countries and environments. Grades Pre-K-1.
  • Grace's Amazing Machines (series 3): Presenter Grace Webb explains the role and basic mechanics of large and/or fast vehicles, usually ending up in the driving seat for a demonstration. Grades PreK-3.
  • Mr. Nussbaum's Learning Games: These games by MrNussbaum.com were developed with the idea that crucial concepts, themes, ideas, and fact sets taught in the classroom can be enhanced through interactivity. Grades K-8.
  • My World Kitchen (series 4): This charming children's cooking program shows young chefs taking control of the kitchen to celebrate their ancestry. In each episode, a child is the protagonist and demonstrates how to cook one of his or her favorite dishes of the country or region where his or her family comes from. In addition to showing delicious and easy-to-make recipes from around the world, this entertaining series helps the young audience learn about the countries and cultures behind the dishes and inspires them to explore a new world of flavors.
  • Social Studies Kids: This video series from Wonderscape Education is designed for early elementary students to learn all about cultural diversity, social justice, activism and voting. Grades 1-2.
  • Science Kids: This video series from Wonderscape Education is perfect for elementary schoolers learning about a variety of Science topics. Grades 2-5.
  • History Kids: This video series from Wonderscape Education is perfect for middle schoolers learning about a variety of World History and American History topics, from Ancient Egypt to Kamala Harris. Grades 4-8.

High School

  • Tashi's Turbine: Set in the grassroots of the Himalayan mountains, Tashi's Turbine is an uplifting tale of a small village's attempt to harness renewable, sustainable energy with the power of the wind. February 2021 SAFARI Montage Titles

SAFARI added some new title packages to Montage over the last couple of weeks. Below is a list of the packages with links to playlists of the titles.:

  • U.S. Air Force Band Music - 35 songs from the U.S. Air Force Band including: The Star Spangled Banner, America the Beautiful, The Stars and Stripes Forever, Clair de Lune, Waltz of the Flowers and more.

Learn 360 has added 859 titles to our collection over the course of the last month. 

Included in these are:

  • "That's Cool" series from Canadian Broadcasting Corp. - answers questions like, "How do fish breathe underwater?"
  • "Li'l Doc" series from Canadian Broadcasting Corp. - Human biology
  • The "American School Culture Functional Vocabulary Builder" - specifically to help students from other countries and cultures acclimate to American life and language
  • The "Language Function and Construction" series, also for English Language Learners
  • The "Collaborative Listening and Speaking" series, for beginner English Language Learners
  • 383 titles from Knowledgemotion, including 28 titles from the "Two Cents" series, 4 titles from the "PBS Space Time" series, 44 titles from the "PBS Infinite" series, 39 titles from the "PBS EONS" series, 52 titles from the "Origin of Everything" series, and 207 titles from the popular "It's Okay to Be Smart" series.

April 2020 SAFARI Montage Titles

SAFARI Montage has added a new module almost every day since the school closures (including the weekends). Listed below:

  • The Citizen Genius Project Web Links - 14 new web links to videos covering United States government, elections, politics and history. Topics include: gerrymandering, Congressional redistricting, the Electoral college, dark money, PACs and Super PACs, economic inequality and more.
  • Crash Course Web Links Content Package: 190 new web streaming titles featuring irreverent, fast-paced and humorous videos presented by John Green, Hank Green and others. Topics include: navigating digital information, statistics, engineering, astronomy, anatomy and physiology, biology, chemistry, ecology, psychology, U.S. government and politics, U.S. history, world history, theater and literature.
  • TED-Ed Web Links Content Package: Includes web links to fascinating TED Talks and TED-Ed videos spanning all subjects. Recently updated to include 119 new web links.
  • Khan Academy Web Links Content Package: 137 new additions including web links to career exploration videos, Pixar in a Box computer animation videos and lessons, and computer programming and computer science videos and lessons. Other topics include: physics, biology, elementary math, geometry, trigonometry, American civics, finance, art, architecture and sample SAT reading, writing and math questions.

April 2020 Learn360 Titles

81 new titles from Learn360 were imported into our SAFARI Montage platform on Monday, April 6th.

Highlights include:

What is the Coronavirus? (Grades K-5) The latest in the series of the groundbreaking K-5 science education series Bailey's Big Backyard. In this episode, Bailey has questions about the coronavirus. Maggie answers his questions and Bailey learns about where the disease began, what it looks like, how it travels and most importantly how he can keep himself safe. The information is simple, and factual and delivered with no hint of alarm or fear. The overall message is that adults are working diligently to stop the spread of the disease, and that by washing your hands with soap and water, staying away from people who are sick, and using a hand sanitizer are things everyone can do to protect themselves and others from contracting the disease.

COVID-19 (Grades 3-8) In this short video, children's health expert Slim Goodbody discusses the COVID-19 pandemic to children in a non-threatening manner. He explains how the disease got started, how it spreads, who gets ill and how to help protect one's self.

The Getting to Know Art series (Grades K-4) Get to know the elements of art, such as color, line, shape and form, as well as different types of media. 

Getting to Know: World's Greatests Artists series (Grades 3-8) Learn about some of the world's greatest artists such as Monet, Van Gogh, Degas, da Vinci, Ringgold and more.

Astronauts - Toughest Job in the Universe series (Grades 9-12) Learn what candidates have to go through in order to be accepted into the astronaut program in this 6-program series from the BBC.
