About SWANK K-12 Streaming

SWANK Streaming is provided to participants in the Monroe One BOCES Instructional Multimedia Service.  It offers access to a collection of up to 400 feature films for instructional use in K-12 classrooms.  This collection is licensed annually (through June 30 of each year).  The titles in the collection will be reevaluated each June.

Please make sure that when using this resource, you adhere to any/all of your District’s policies regarding the showing/viewing of feature films in the classroom.

Authentication / Access Links

We are currently moving to a new authentication process for each individual district. This means each district will have its own login process to access Swank K-12 Streaming.

The following districts will authenticate through their Classlink portals:

  • East Irondequoit
  • East Rochester
  • Fairport
  • Honeoye Falls-Lima
  • Penfield

The districts listed below will use their own link to log in to their Swank accounts:

We are still setting up authentication for Brighton and Rush Henrietta, so users in these districts will log in using our BOCES account. Click the logo to the left, or this link: Monroe One BOCES Swank

Logging In

To log in, you will use your school email address and you will have been given a default password for the first time. Use the instructions below to change your password the first time you log in.

If an educator forgets their password after changing it, please email me: liesl_toates@boces.monroe.edu. The forgot password link doesn't work.

Changing Your Password or Personal Information

The first time you log on, please change your password to something unique and that you will remember.

Passwords are case sensitive, and must be at least six characters long and have at least one number and uppercase letter. To Edit your Profile or Change your Password, click on the word "Profile" on the menu at the left.

Searching the Catalog

Easily search for the movie you want using the search bar at the top right. If you don't see the search bar, click "Search" on the menu to the left to get to the Search page.

To see only the films that Monroe One BOCES has access to, click on Filter > License Status > Licensed. This will filter out the films we have not purchased.

Watching or Assigning Films to Students

When you have selected the film you would like to view or assign, click Watch to view the film yourself. Click Share to assign it to your students.

  • If you are sharing your link via email, or in a document, you may "Copy Direct Link" and paste it into your email or document.
  • If you are sharing your link in a Learning Management System, you may copy the link with the html code by using "Copy LMS Link"

Students will click the link to view the film. It will prompt them to log in. If you are unsure of the student logins, please contact Katie Bertrand or Liesl Toates.

Adding or Removing Closed Captioning

You can add Closed Captioning to a film as long as it has the CC symbol listed in the record:

To turn Closed Captioning on, while you are watching the film, hover over the bottom of the screen until you see the timeline show up. In the bottom right corner, click the three vertical dots.

Audio and Closed Captioning preferences will then appear. Some newer films will have Captioning in other languages. Choose the one you want.

If you want to remove Closed Captions, you can choose "None" in the drop down list.

Requesting a Title

If the title you are looking for is listed in Swank, but we do not have it in our licensed catalog, you can request that the title be added. Click the Request Title button.

This will bring up a form for you to fill out. Please ensure you fill out the entire form. YOU MUST FILL OUT THE ACADEMIC USE SECTION. If you do not fill this out, your request will be denied.

If your request is not approved you will receive an email. If your request is approved the title will be added to the catalog within 10 school days.
