Summer Reading 2024: Home

Summer Reading Challenge

This summer, K-3 students in West Irondequoit are encouraged to enjoy the benefits of recreational reading. Summer reading reinforces the habit of reading for pleasure, enrichment, and information. The New York State Library theme this year is: “ADVENTURE BEGINS AT YOUR LIBRARY"

We ask that your child read at least 5 books while on summer vacation. This will help them maintain the important reading skills they learned this year and set them up for success in the Fall.   If you are looking for book ideas please explore the suggested reading lists on this site.

How do you start a Reading Adventure?  It's easy, just read!  Students are encouraged to read at least 5 books over the summer - on their own, with a grown-up or sibling, a physical book, an e-book on the computer, or even listening to and audio book.

How can students share their reading adventure with others? Students can start a book club, participate in a book swap, or write book reviews to share!  Any tasks that involve discussion, sharing, or creating with others will spread the joy of reading.

On this page you'll find links to places to get books and booklists around the theme Adventure Begins at Your Library. We hope you enjoy these book ideas, but students can ready any book, magazine, audio book, catalog, newspaper, or website over the summer.

Students are also encouraged to complete the Adventure Bingo sheet by completing and crossing off at least 5 squares.  If they return the sheet to the library in the Fall they will get a certificate and small prize!

Get ready for your reading adventure!
