Dystopian: Explores social and political structures of an imagined or post-apocalyptic society.  Usually includes themes of oppression and rebellion.

Historical Fiction: Stories that take place in a culturally recognizable place and time in the past, but include imaginative embellishment.

Science Fiction: Imaginative and futuristic, but based in science.  Describes the impact of science, technology and space on society.

Realistic Fiction: Stories that resemble real life issues and events and take place in a believable setting.

Non-Fiction: Literature that focuses on factual real-life events, people or ideas.
