Rain Reign by Ann M. Martin
Reviewed by Liesl Toates
Rose Howard loves two things in life. Her dog, Rain, and homonyms. Ok, she also loves her dad, and maybe even more, she loves her uncle. Her dad can be kind of mean sometimes. Rose is on the spectrum and has trouble sometimes relating to other people and breaking her routines. She also has trouble when other people break the rules, which makes school a little bit difficult for her. She is constantly in trouble for acting up when kids break the rules. Rose's dad has trouble relating to her, and just wishes she would act normal. One night Rose's dad lets Rain outside in the middle of a huge storm and Rain goes missing. Rose has to break her daily routine in order to find her beloved dog.
With a few twists and turns in this story, the reader comes to understand what its like to live with a spectrum disorder. It is easy to like, and feel connected to, Rose. Her character may surprise you in this story. I highly recommend this book.
